Mindful Touch: Bringing Mindfulness into Shiatsu Practice

Shiatsu is not only about technique—it is also about presence, awareness, listening, and connection. The quality of a practitioner’s attention can profoundly influence the experience of giving and receiving Shiatsu.
In this experiential workshop, John Carbone, MD, founder of Integrative Mindfulness, introduces Shiatsu students and practitioners to the principles and practices of mindfulness meditation and explores how they can be integrated naturally into hands-on Shiatsu practice.
Through guided mindfulness exercises, meditation, breath awareness, and experiential practice, participants will explore how to become more grounded and present before and during a Shiatsu session. Students will learn to notice their own breath, posture, thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations while developing greater sensitivity to the person receiving Shiatsu.
