FAQ - Zen Shiatsu Certification Training Program

1. Is there a time limit to complete the program?

Most students complete the program within 1½ to 2 years. However, there is no strict time limit. You may progress at a pace that feels appropriate for you.

2. Do I need to take Levels 1–10 in order?

Yes. It is strongly recommended to take the levels in sequence, as each level builds upon the previous one and deepens your understanding progressively.

3. Can the code “REPEAT50” be applied to any course? Can I continue using it?

Yes, you may continue using the code REPEAT50 when repeating individual Level 1–10 courses.

Please note:

  • The code applies only to individual level courses you’ve already taken.

  • It does not apply to bundles (bundles already include a discount).

  • Discounts cannot be combined.

4. When should I take the online courses?

It is helpful to review the materials before class and revisit the videos afterward.

Many students also watch the videos while practicing with family members or friends to deepen their understanding and confidence.

5. How do I log into the online learning materials?

The course materials can be found by logging in at https://learn.fivelightscenter.com

If it is your first time logging in and you are having trouble, look for the invite link in your inbox from Thinkific, or try resetting your password. The email should be the same email you use to sign up for Five Lights Center courses.

If you're still having trouble logging in, trying replacing YOUR_EMAIL with your email below:

If you still experience difficulty logging in, please contact info@fivelightscenter.com for assistance.

6. I don’t see Levels 4, 5, or 6 listed. Will they be added?

These levels are listed on our training calendar here:
https://www.fivelightscenter.com/shiatsu-teacher-training

We typically announce the schedule six months in advance.

7. What are Elective Courses?

Electives provide additional learning beyond the core Levels 1–10 curriculum.

Our workshops and special events are part of the elective offerings:
https://www.fivelightscenter.com/shiatsu-events

We believe Shiatsu is more than technique — it is a community and a way of life. Retreat workshops, Shiatsu Camp, and the Shiatsu Summit are wonderful opportunities to expand your perspective while earning credited hours toward your certification.

8. How does the Supervised Practice Class work?

You may register through the website or pay upon arrival.

After completing Level 1, you will be added to our WhatsApp group, where you can see:

  • Who is attending

  • The focus or topic of the day

You may practice with students at your level, advanced students, or graduates. It is a supportive environment designed to help you deepen your skills and confidence.

You are also welcome to bring a friend to practice with you. Your friend does not need to pay tuition, although this is completely optional.

For virtual students or those who travel long distances, we do our best to support practice in other ways. Some students arrange peer practice with classmates, family members, or local partners, and we can also review questions and techniques during class sessions or through follow-up discussions.

Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to talk about your specific situation — we’re happy to help you find a way to continue developing your practice.

9. What do I receive after finishing the program?

Upon completing the program, you may become a Certified Five Lights Practitioner and practice at the Five Lights Center.

You may also be eligible to teach Makko Ho as a health and wellness coach.

As a CEU provider, we issue certificates for licensed professionals to submit to their appropriate licensing boards.

10. Do I need to purchase all the books?

Some recommended books are no longer being printed. We encourage you to purchase them from previous students, or suppliers who sell out of print or used books.

Books can be purchased through:
https://www.thriftbooks.com
https://www.amazon.com
https://www.ebay.com

11. When is it a good time to take a tutorial? Who can give a tutorial?

It is beneficial at any stage of your training to receive sessions and schedule a tutorial with a staff member at the Five Lights Center.

Receiving Shiatsu allows you to experience professional touch directly and refine your techniques from the inside out. Tutorials provide personalized guidance to deepen your understanding, improve body mechanics, and clarify questions that arise in your practice.

Tutorials may be given by senior instructors or approved staff members of the Five Lights Center.
