A First Encounter with the Living Energy of Shiatsu

Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to participate in the Shiatsu Summit.
The first thing that surprised me was the number of people. I was deeply impressed to see so many individuals gathering from different countries and cities, all coming together with the shared intention of learning Shiatsu. There was a powerful sense of energy flowing through the space—something alive, warm, and collective.
During Thin Thin Lay sensei’s Reiki class, I discovered how much energy can be felt simply by placing hands over another person. What fascinated me most was how different each person’s energy felt—subtle yet unique. Since that experience, when I concentrate, I have begun to perceive colors and shapes in people’s energy. I feel this awareness will support my Shiatsu practice and Childcare.
Tom Banasiak sensei was incredibly kind and patient, teaching me with great care even though I am not very confident in English. What touched me most was that without using strong pressure, his touch on my neck brought a sense of lightness and clarity to my whole being—as if I had grown wings.
Ivan Bel sensei reminded me of the joy of moving freely and following one’s heart. In Japan, many of us, including myself, can feel shy and hesitant to express ourselves openly. Seeing everyone moving with such openness and enjoyment encouraged me to do the same. It became a truly joyful and liberating moment.

Roberta Massobrio sensei was truly amazing. I had met her before in Italy, but this time I felt even more deeply her softness, warmth, intelligence and inner strength. I also understand how challenging it can be to express oneself in a second language in front of a large group. Through her kindness and presence, I learned a new way of introducing Shiatsu through assessment.
Michael Mamychshvili sensei's class left a great impression on me because nothingness creates greatness. I experienced the importance of noticing subtle changes within myself and others, and of being accepted and truly listened to. I could feel my heart slowly opening. The time felt too short—I would have loved to continue.
Manuela Perardi sensei —whom I also studied with in Italy—brought a gentle and comforting presence. I was so happy we could practice together again. Guided by her soft voice, I almost fell asleep in a state of deep relaxation… (haha).
Although I have only recently begun studying Shiatsu, I will carry this Summit experience in my heart as I continue my journey. As a childcare teacher, I especially hope to bring this awareness and shiatsu approach into my work with children.

I wish everyone continued good health.
And to all my classmates—
They were all so kind, guiding me sometimes in Japanese or Spanish, and sometimes by showing me how to do things. I’m really glad I met all of you. I hope we can meet again somewhere
I look forward to returning for next year’s Summit!
